Trick-or-Treating Hours & Safety Guidelines

Website Halloween Safety Tips

Village-authorized trick-or-treating hours are 4-7:30P on October 31. Those choosing to participate should be mindful of neighbors and safety, and follow the guidelines of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), summarized below.

Guidance for Trick or Treaters
• Trick-or-treaters should look for signs indicating whether a house participates in trick-or-treating. Things to look for include signage posted, Halloween or seasonal decorations, and illuminated front lights.
• Be respectful of others, and their decisions to participate or not participate in trick-or-treating this year. Avoid dark homes.
• Look both ways before crossing the street.
• Stay visible. Wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight even before dusk. Light-colored costumes are easier to see in the dark.
• Eat only factory wrapped for commercial treats.
• It is strongly encouraged for adults to accompany kids of all ages.
• Trick-or-treat only in familiar neighborhoods.

Guidance for Households
• Individuals passing out candy are asked to please pass out candy individually instead of children taking a treat from a communal bowl.
• Make it easy for trick-or-treaters to know whether you are passing out candy. Leave lights on if you are participating.

Ways to properly indicate your home is NOT participating:
• Post signage - Create your own or download it from a website like the one here.
• Lighting – Keep your outdoor lights off if you do not want to participate.
