The River Run 5K, 10K, and Kids' Dash take place annually on the first Saturday of October, along the scenic Fox River. The USA Track and Field (USATF) certified course starts and finishes in front of the Village Hall, 200 N. River St., Montgomery. This is the perfect race for all ages and abilities. Pets, kids, and strollers are welcome to walk/run the 5K course! The racecourse map is linked below.

KIDS DASH (0.26mi)
The River Run kicks off early with a fun, untimed kids race from Montgomery Park to the finish line. All Kids' Dash participants receive a medal. 
**NEW FOR 2026 - Shirts will be included in the pricing for the kids race.

The mission of the Montgomery Foundation is to seek out innovative program ideas that will benefit the residents of Montgomery.  Program ideas that inspire through their simplicity and originality; that neighborhoods can embrace and manage. Our six focus areas include scholarships, arts and culture, family literacy, Little Free Libraries, performing arts, and community grants.

Race Highlights

REGISTER EARLY
Early Bird Registration is available through August 31. After September 1, fees increase by $5. Shirts are limited, and sizing is only guaranteed to registered participants before September 1. The Race Committee will do its best to provide shirts for all paying participants, but sizing may be limited. After September 30, pricing increases through Race Day. 

RACE DAY REGISTRATION IS ONLY AVAILABLE IF SPACE REMAINS.

TEAM REGISTRATION - Save Money - Grab Your Friends - Create A Team
Groups of four or more may register as a "team" and save $5 off individual registration. Team participants receive the same shirts as individual runners. 

Beginning in 2024, we will no longer offer the additional $10 upgrade for team names to be added to shirts. Due to price increases, we are no longer able to accommodate this request at this price point.

TIMING, AWARDS, & SAFETY (Certification Code: 5K: IL-06047JW - 10K: IL-13137JW)
The race is chip-timed by Race Time. Each racer's bib will hold a QR code that may be scanned post-race to review results. Additionally, race results will be posted to the montgomeryil.org website within 24 hours of completion. 

A sideline digital clock will be located at the finish line. The race will be chip timed. Water stations and first aid are available on the course.

AGE GROUPS AND AWARD CATEGORIES
Awards will be given to the top male and female runners in the 5K & the 10K and to the top three runners in each age bracket. The awards ceremony will take place outside (weather permitting) in front of Village Hall at approximately 10A (subject to the last runners finishing the race).

2026 PACKET PICKUP
Thursday, October 1, from 8 AM - 7 PM and Friday, October 2, from 8 AM - 4:30 PM at the Village of Montgomery, 200 N. River St., at the Utility Billing Counter (upper level). Please note that ALL race packets are by individual's last names, regardless of whether you are on a team. Additionally, runners may pick up their packets on Saturday before the race between 8-8:30A.
