The Village of Montgomery and the Montgomery Police Department kindly share winter weather reminders with the community before the area's first winter storm, expected to begin Monday, January 8, around 8:00P and continue until midnight on Wednesday, January 10. Additional rounds of snow are forecasted into the weekend. Residents should take precautions and be mindful of travel and the heavy presence of snow plows throughout the storm and cleanup.
- It is prohibited for any person to park a motor vehicle, or if parked, to allow a vehicle to remain parked or standing in a public street or alley during or after a snowfall in which there is an accumulation of 2" inches of snow or more. Please reference Sec. 11-43 - Parking during snow removal prohibited; removal of vehicles.
- All garbage and recycling cans must be removed from the street and set at or behind the curb lines. Please limit when cans are left outside, as heavy, wet snow can easily knock over cans with passing snow plows.
- The Village's snow team deploys before a winter weather storm and continues to work around the clock to clear all roadways within 12 hours of the snow ending. Please be patient and mindful that clear roadways and safety are our priority.
- The Village does not maintain all of the roads within the Village, as some areas fall under local or state highway jurisdiction. These include but are not limited to Boulder Hill, other unincorporated areas of the Village, Hill Ave., Route 25, Route 30, Route 31, and Orchard Rd.
- Residents are responsible for clearing and ensuring accessibility to fire hydrants located on their property or within their subdivision.
- Be a good neighbor; clear and salt sidewalks and driveways to limit ice patches for the safety of pedestrians.
- Use extra caution in areas susceptible to icing, including ramps, bridges, curves, and shaded areas. Watch for black ice. A road may appear clear but can be extremely slippery.
- If you must travel, be advised your destination could have significantly higher amounts of snow than where you originated. Slow down, anticipate much longer travel times, increase braking distances, and expect conditions to deteriorate.
- Check current road conditions at GettingAroundIllinois.com.
- Give the snow plows plenty of room. Please do not attempt to pass a snow plow; conditions in front of it will be worse than behind.
- Always wear a seatbelt.
- Drop it and drive. Put down mobile devices. This is the law at all times.
- If you are involved in a crash, remain inside your vehicle. Exiting your car near a busy road is dangerous and can have fatal consequences.

WINTER STORM WARNING ISSUED JANUARY 8 AT 2:07P CST
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning and advisory this evening for much of the state's northern half. Snow accumulations are expected to range from 1 to 5 inches east of Interstate 55, with higher totals to the west, including up to 11 inches in the Rockford area and a foot or more in northwest Illinois and the Quad Cities. Between 1 and 5 inches are anticipated in the Chicago area. Significant rain is forecast for the southern regions of Illinois.
Gusts up to 45 mph will create blowing and drifting, reducing visibility and challenging snow-removal efforts.
