The Village of Montgomery is pleased to announce Lindsay Laurie as the new Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist. Lindsay joined the Village in 2024 as part of a strategic initiative to enhance professional governance, develop infrastructure, and invest in stakeholders. The newly created GIS Specialist position brings GIS services in-house, allowing staff, elected officials, residents, and developers to leverage advanced mapping and data technology for more informed decision-making.
Lindsay comes to Montgomery with a diverse background and a wealth of experience. She spent her childhood in China and the United States, and most recently, she lived and studied in South Africa, where she completed her master's degree in sustainable urban development at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. During her studies, she focused her research on sustainable transportation, a "topic of head and heart interest," as she explains. Lindsay states, "I hope to make responsible impacts on social, environmental, and economic sustainability in the communities within my reach, both personally and professionally."
Her professional experience includes developing and maintaining an asset management system for a university campus utilizing GIS and working in construction and facilities management for rental properties. Additionally, she has a strong background in communications and marketing. Lindsey adds, "Her position allows her to utilize both hemispheres of her brain, the numbers, and data as part of the information systems (GIS) and the creative presentation of data with maps inherent intuitive design."
Lindsay's positive attitude, curious spirit, and well-rounded skill set have vastly impacted the Village's mapping tools and resources. This month, the Village launched "My Montgomery," a GIS mapping platform to enhance transparency and accessibility. Users can view property details, zoning districts, infrastructure assets, and other key geographic data. Residents can quickly search for addresses, explore public resources, and gain insights into Village services and projects.
Lindsay recently relocated to Oswego and is eager to explore the Chicagoland area. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, exploring nature, and adding to her world currency collection.
