The Village of Montgomery and Earthmover Credit Union are partnering to offer the community and members a free paper shredding opportunity on Saturday, September 21, from 9A-12P at the Montgomery Police Station (10 Civic Center Ave.) on the Village's west side. The drive-thru event is made possible on behalf of both organizations. It will offer a convenient, accessible, and easy way for community members to recycle and destroy papers containing sensitive material and information at no charge.
The event is free, but a four-box shredding limit does apply to each vehicle. The event does not require advance registration and is first come, first served. Earthmover Credit Union volunteers will be onsite collecting donations for those interested in raising money for CASA of Kendall County. "As a local credit union, supporting the community is important to our organization and its employees. CASA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect in our community. They train and support dedicated community volunteers who serve and protect a child's right to a safe and permanent home," says Alex Morales, Business Development Representative for the local credit union serving Montgomery, Oswego, and surrounding areas.
Participants must enter from Griffin and Baseline Rd. (Rt. 30), also known as the south entrance to the Stuart Sports Complex. Signage will direct traffic into a line toward the shredding truck parked in the police department parking lot. There is no need to get out of your car as volunteers will lead cars and unload bags or boxes from the vehicle. The event contracts Beaver Shredding, which provides a mobile shredding truck onsite for those needing to dispose of confidential paperwork, old files, and papers containing personal information. Paper will be shredded onsite in a locked container for additional security and improved disposal measures. You don't need to register for the shredding event.
The Village offers paper shredding twice annually. The next shredding event is tentatively set for May 10, 2025. For more information on this week's shredding event or resident support services provided by the Village of Montgomery, visit montgomeryil.org.
