The Village of Montgomery proudly recognized Lion Concrete for reaching an incredible milestone—100 years of craftsmanship and family tradition as a Montgomery business. At a special March 24 board meeting presentation, Village officials honored owners Scott and Val Neupert and their families for their dedication to preserving and growing this iconic local business.
Founded in 1925 by Ed and Claire Delaney at the corner of Webster and Route 31, Lion Concrete began manufacturing concrete blocks. Over the decades, the business evolved under the leadership of multiple generations of the Delaney and Neupert families. From introducing pre-cast concrete by Ronald "Blockie" Delaney to expanding into wholesale and numerous retail locations under Scott and Val Neupert, Lion Concrete has continuously adapted while staying true to its roots.
Through challenges—including the devastating 1990s Montgomery flood, which forced the business to relocate—Lion Concrete has remained a pillar of resilience and innovation. Under Neupert's leadership, the company has expanded from a small garage operation to two prime storefront locations, opening a second showroom in Oswego in November 2024. Every piece is still hand-painted, reflecting the company’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship.
"For 100 years, Lion Concrete has been 'in front of the best places in town' with its signature birdbaths and flowerpots that have become local favorites," said Village President Matt Brolley. "Their legacy is not just about business—it's about family, community, and a passion for quality that has stood the test of time."
The Village Board and community congratulate the Neupert family and Lion Concrete on this historic achievement. To learn more about Lion Concrete and its fantastic ornamental concrete pieces, visit lionconcrete.net.
