[ARCHIVED] Montgomery Honors 2025 Volunteers of the Year Award Recipients

Volunteer of the Year Award Winners 2025

At the June 23 Village Board Meeting, the Village of Montgomery recognized the commitment and contributions of seven outstanding individuals and one nonprofit group during its annual Volunteer of the Year Recognition.

"While volunteers often give without expectation of recognition, tonight we take the opportunity to say thank you," said Rosie Boeing, Community Engagement & Event Coordinator for the Village of Montgomery. "The individuals we honor this evening have left a lasting impact—uplifting others, preserving our heritage, and demonstrating what it truly means to serve."

The 2025 honorees include:

Youth Impact Volunteer of the Year | Bob Mehrens
A dedicated Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Bob has tirelessly championed the needs of children in foster care. In addition to his advocacy work, he mentors new volunteers and collaborates closely with child-welfare professionals, offering both insight and empathy to help change young lives for the better in Kane County.

Heart of the Community Volunteer of the Year | Nancy Tranby
A beloved figure in Montgomery, Nancy has served for decades as Mrs. Claus, brightening the holidays for countless families at the Village’s annual Tree Lighting & Visit with Santa. She’s also a long-time member of the Beautification Committee, assisting with holiday décor judging, planting bridge flowers, and other initiatives to promote community pride.

Community Impact Volunteer of the Year | Alecia Wahl
Alecia’s work supporting a local food pantry through the St. Olaf Church in Montgomery quietly and powerfully uplifts families in need. With compassion and dignity, she offers not just food, but emotional support and a sense of belonging. Her leadership and care exemplify the best of community spirit.

Nonprofit Organization Impact Volunteers of the Year | The Dickson-Murst Farm Partners
This dedicated group brings local history to life through education, preservation, and storytelling. By restoring historic farm buildings and leading family events, they honor Montgomery’s agricultural roots and engage the next generation in the community’s heritage.

Rising Stars Volunteers of the Year | Harper Ault, Madelyn Gordon, Katelyn LaMonica, Ava Yarbough
These four young women serve as peer leaders at Special Stars, Inc., a dance studio for children with disabilities located in the Village of Montgomery. Their dedication to creating an inclusive, joyful, and supportive space has made them role models for kindness, inclusion, and leadership.

The Village extends heartfelt thanks to all who volunteer their time and talents to make Montgomery a stronger, more connected place to live. From the courtroom to the dance floor, from the food pantry to historic farmsteads, each of these honorees have enriched the community through acts of kindness, leadership, and unwavering service.

A special appreciation gathering was held before the board meeting on Monday, June 23, 2025, to honor and celebrate the outstanding winners' achievements. For more information on the award program and details, visit montgomeryil.org.
