Getting your garden or yard ready for spring? The Village of Montgomery has once again secured an all-time low rate for rain barrels through The Conservation Foundation. Barrels are available for $58.50 each in a variety of colors.

New this year are home delivery and set-up options for an additional fee. Other options and items can be viewed at the Village’s new online ordering page, facilitated by The Conservation Foundation and Upcycle Products.

The page is found at http://upcyclerainbarrel.com/static.asp?path=5368.

These components include water diverters and linking hoses for the barrels as well as separate items such as compost containers and reclaimed lumber birdhouses and flower boxes.

The barrels are recycled, industrial-grade food storage containers modified to collect and hold rainwater. The water can then be used for lawn and garden watering, home car washing and filling the bird bath.

According to The Conservation Foundation, “using rain as a resource in…rain barrels can have a dramatic impact on water quality in our rivers and streams and will help reduce flooding.”

This year, the Village will also host a rain barrel set-up and usage seminar in partnership with The Conservation Foundation.

The seminar is free and will be held April 30 at 7 p.m. at The Conservation Foundation’s Dickson-Murst Farm at 2550 Dickson Road in Montgomery.

Please call 630-896-8080 ext. 1117 to ask questions or RSVP for the rain barrel seminar.
