The Illinois Department of Agriculture (DoA) is treating areas in northern Illinois for the gypsy moth; Montgomery is included, specifically the east side of the river from Mill Street north to the dam. The treatment that will be used is bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki, or BTK, “a naturally-occurring bacteria used by gardeners as an environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides,” and will be applied by helicopter Thursday morning, May 16, starting at sunrise. Details can be viewed by visiting the DoA’s website (see "Additional Info" below).
