Due to the high demand for road salt this winter, the Village will have a limited supply of road salt for the remainder of this winter season. To conserve our remaining salt supply, Village plowing staff will begin limiting the amount of salt we apply beginning with this weekend’s predicted storms. During the snowfall period, staff will limit salting to critical locations such as hills, bridges, some intersections, etc. and will focus on plowing snow off the streets. Once the snow has stopped falling and most of it has been plowed crews will salt the primary routes (main streets) throughout the village and will possibly salt secondary and minor routes (neighborhood streets) depending on road conditions, weather forecasts, and salt supply on hand.
Please use caution whenever you drive during winter conditions. Drivers are reminded to slow down and allow extra space between vehicles when driving in winter weather and be extra cautious at intersections and on hills and bridges. Motorist are also urged to be especially careful when interacting with snow plows, staying a minimum of 75 feet behind the trucks and never attempting to pass them. Even where roads appear to be wet, drivers need to be mindful of “black ice” which causes roadways to be slick.
