Settler’s Cottage, Montgomery’s historical museum, will be reopening on Sunday, May 15th for the summer season. On May 15th the museum will be open from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Visitors are invited to stop in to learn more about Montgomery’s rich history in this restored 1840s home owned by Village founder Daniel S. Gray, located in front of the Village Hall at 200 N. River Street.
Exhibits include art by Montgomery resident Phillip Basuier, glass plate negatives showing early photos of Montgomery, and the Civil War (did you know we had a Civil War camp in Montgomery?). In addition, a new exhibit features information on the 54 Civil War soldiers buried in Riverside Cemetery with information on the headstone restoration project taking place there. Come try your hand at operating a treadle sewing machine, clothes wringer and hand drills! The museum is free and is handicapped accessible.
