Storm Sewers
The storm sewer system is designed to carry rainfall runoff and other drainage. It is not designed to carry sewage or accept hazardous wastes. The runoff is carried in underground pipes or open ditches and discharges the untreated water into local streams, rivers, and other surface water bodies. The beneficial impact of storm drains is enormous due to the number of functions they service. In addition to their standard drainage function, stormwater systems help minimize the spread of debris and contaminants, prevent soil and stream erosion, and offer protection for drinking water quality.
The Public Works Department Streets Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of storm sewer mains within the Village limits. If you know of a plugged or poorly draining storm sewer, please report that information to Public Works at 630-896-9241 so we may initiate necessary repairs.
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program
The NPDES permit program addresses water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants to waters of the United States. Created in 1972 by the Clean Water Act, the NPDES permit program is authorized to state governments by the EPA to perform many permitting, administrative, and enforcement aspects of the program.
Annually the Village of Montgomery must submit a facility inspection report to the EPA for the NPDES Permit for Storm Water Discharges from separate storm sewer systems (MS4). A copy of the most recent reports can be found below:

Sanitary Sewer Information
The Public Works Department Water Division is responsible for the maintenance of sanitary sewer mains within the Village limits. A sanitary sewer main is a pipe located in the street, back easement, or side easement that is designed solely to transport wastewater from homes and businesses to the wastewater treatment plant.
Sanitary service lines, which generally run from the foundation to the sewer main, are the maintenance responsibility of the homeowner. If you experience a sewer back-up in your home, you may request the public works team to investigate the sanitary sewer main for blockages or other flow problems. You can contact the Public Works Department at 630-896-9241.
If the sewer main is blocked, we will initiate repairs to correct the condition. However, if it is determined that the sanitary service line is blocked, residents will need to contact a sewer maintenance contractor to correct the problem and it will be at their expense as the service lines are the responsibility of the homeowner.
