PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT FREE CURBSIDE LEAF COLLECTION
(no bags, raked curbside - with limitations and guidelines, see below)
2026 CURBSIDE LEAF PROGRAM WILL RUN OCTOBER 26TH THRU DECEMBER 4TH.
The Village's free Leaf Collection Program will occur in October and November. Residents can stay current on the schedule each year by following the Village's social media pages or website. Dates are weather dependent as an early snowfall may sometimes halt the program earlier than scheduled. The crews will make one pass through the Village. All leaves must be raked curbside by 7A on Monday each week. The leaf vac cannot collect grass clippings, sticks, twigs, and other debris. Placement of foreign debris in the leaf piles will result in the crew skipping your address.
Additionally, crews cannot vacuum leaves within 10' of a tree, mailbox, fire hydrant, street light, street sign, etc. Therefore, do not park cars in front of the leaves to be collected, as our leaf vacuum will not reach them.
Leaves for curbside pick-up by the Village Leaf vacuum must be in the parkway at the front of the property from which they originate. Do not rake leaves into the street or onto other lots.
The Curbside Leaf Collection Program runs annually from end of October to the end of November, dates are subject to change based on holiday schedules. Collection takes place throughout the week, in a traditional week a leaf truck should pass each home approximately one time. The date of collection cannot be guaranteed.
For questions on this program, please call Public Works at 630-896-9241.
LRS (REFUSE HAULER) LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM
(bagged, collected on designated garbage day)
The Village's refuse hauler, LRS, will pick up leaves weekly on your regularly scheduled dates in stickered yard waste bags from April until the end of November each year. However, two weeks each fall and two week each spring LRS will offer sticker-free yard waste bag collection. Leaves must be put in yard waste bags or marked 32-gallon yard waste cans with two handles. Bags must be placed at the curb no earlier than 5P the night before your scheduled collection.
The 2025 Fall Sticker-Free Weeks from LRS are November 10-21. These dates are subject to change.
For questions on this program, please call LRS directly at 844-633-3577 or email service@LRSrecycles.com.
Please remember that leaf burning is prohibited by the village ordinance.
The village ordinance prohibits leaf burning (Village of Montgomery Code, Section 12-27). Leaves must be on the parkway in front of the property from which they originate (Village of Montgomery Code, Section 9-45). Please do not rake leaves into the street or onto other lots.
Sustainable Options for Getting Rid of Leaves before the Winter
- MULCH THEM ON YOUR LAWN: Mow the leaves into small pieces. They will decompose and enrich your soil.
- USE AS MULCH: Rake leaves into your flower and shrub beds or around trees to insulate and protect plants from frost.
- COMPOST THEM: Create a compost pile with leaves to produce nutrient-rich soil for the spring. View the video, The Smart Way to Turn Autumn Leaves Into Free Soil.
