Yes, once two (2") inches of snow or more fall, all cars and personal property must be removed and placed into driveways or garages to allow our Public Works Department the best access to streets for the safe removal of snow. Any failure to do so may result in an ordinance violation/parking ticket by the Montgomery Police Department.
The Village Code states that "It shall be unlawful for any person to park a motor vehicle or, if parked, to allow a motor vehicle to remain parked or standing in any public street or alley during or after a snowfall in which there is an accumulation of two inches of snow or more. This prohibition shall remain in effect until the street or alley has been plowed or the snow has been removed therefrom. A village street shall not be deemed to have been plowed until the lane of traffic nearest the curb has been plowed or the snow has been removed therefrom."Additionally, "Whenever a police officer of the village finds a vehicle parked in violation of this section and where such vehicle constitutes an obstruction to traffic, interferes with the use of streets or in any other manner creates a dangerous or unsafe condition, such vehicle is declared a nuisance and a hazard to public safety; and the police officer may cause the removal of such vehicle to a public garage or other place of safety during snow removal operations of the village on such streets; and the expense of such removal and storage in such public garage shall be paid by the owner or operator of the vehicle in addition to any other penalties imposed by this chapter."

Before you start your next home or business project, check whether you need a building permit. Building permits help ensure that all construction in the Village of Montgomery meets safety standards, protects property values, and complies with Village codes.
Permits are typically required for:
- New construction, additions, or remodels (including basements and attics).
- Decks, porches, patios, and garages
- Fences and sheds, please review HOA standards, as often fence heights or the ability to have sheds are restricted by subdivision guidelines and authorities.
- Roof, siding, and window replacements that involve structural work.
- New electrical or plumbing work.
- Driveways.
- Pools, hot tubs, or spas.
Permits are typically not required for:
- Painting, wallpapering, or other cosmetic updates.
- Installing new flooring or carpeting.
- Replacing cabinets, countertops, or fixtures without moving plumbing or wiring.
- Water heater, A/C or furnace replacements.
- Minor repairs like replacing a few shingles or a broken window pane. Why Permits Matter
Building permits help keep our community safe and ensure that your project is done right. They also help avoid costly corrections later and make it easier to sell your home when the time comes.
If you’re not sure whether your project requires a permit, contact the Village’s Community Development Department before getting started. We’re happy to help guide you through the process.
